Ultherapy
Overview
Ultherapy is a new type of non-surgical procedure for the face
Ultherapy
that uses ultrasound and the body's own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin. The FDA-approved technology utilizes safe, non-invasive ultrasound energy to stimulate the skin's structural support layers, including those targeted in a surgical facelift, without disturbing the surface of the skin. Ultherapy will lift the brow, which in turn reduces excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes, and gives a more refreshed look overall. Compared with radiofrequency, laser, and infrared light technologies, only Ultherapy generates the optimal temperature at the depth for new collagen growth.

How Ultherapy Works
Unlike laser skin tightening, which penetrates the skin from the outside, Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin and specifically targets the deep, structural skin tissues where collagen resides, working from the inside-out to lift and tone skin. Your skin's response to this energy is to recondition tired skin by stimulating the growth of fresh, new collagen. The result is a tightening and gradual lifting of the skin back into a more youthful, form-fitting contour.

Currently, Ultherapy is the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to actually see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.

What to Expect
After cleansing the specific areas to be treated, an ultrasound gel is applied and the smooth handpiece is placed upon your skin. The focused ultrasound energy is then delivered to pre-planned depths within the tissue below to stimulate collagen growth. While patients have noted that there may be some discomfort as the ultrasound energy is being delivered, it is temporary and a positive sign that the collagen-building process has been initiated. With Ultherapy, you can return to your normal daily activities after a single in-office procedure. A full face treatment takes 45–60 minutes, and a partial face or brow lift treatment can take around 30 minutes.

Effectiveness and Results
This FDA-cleared treatment has been established to be safe and effective in clinical studies and tens of thousands of patient treatments worldwide. Patients may experience some initial post-treatment effects, but the ultimate lifting and toning will take place over 2–3 months, as tired collagen is replaced with new, more elastic collagen. As this collagen-building process continues, further improvements can appear up to 6 months following a procedure and last a year or longer. While Ultherapy is not a replacement for surgery, it is a viable option for those not ready for a facelift or those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Possible Side Effects
You are able to return to your normal routine right away, and there are no special measures you need to take. Your skin may appear flushed immediately after the ultrasound treatment, but any redness should disappear within a few hours. It is not uncommon to experience slight swelling for a few days, or tingling/tenderness to the touch for a few weeks following the procedure, but these should be mild and temporary. Other post-procedural effects are possible but rare, such as temporary small areas of bruising or numbness.
